Cabo San Lucas & Breathless Resort & Spa

Just returned from a week in Cabo San Lucas & a stay at Breathless AI Resort.  If you are a desert person or boat lover then this is your beach destination.

The confluence of the Sea of Cortez & the Pacific ocean produce clear, cool blue water that teams with whales, sea lions & other sea life.  ( Whale watching is from Dec – March)

I personally enjoy more humidity but the perpetual sunshine & great stretches of beach are appealing.

My sister & I wined & dined at Breathless AI Resort which is adjacent to the Cabo San Lucas Harbor & right in the center of town. Watching boats & yachts ply the harbor from the infinity pool or our 5th floor balcony was amusing. While not a large all-inclusive resort Breathless Resort did offer several excellent dining options & both Shannon & I  agreed that the food was 5 Star.

One highlight of this Cabo trip was our boat excursion on the Edith 4, a boat owned by locals. They took us out on the water for a few hours at a fair price. We saw whales, the lovely coast line & Pancho the celebrity Sea Lion who hangs in & around the harbor because eating is good. He jumped on the back of our boat for a minutes to see if snacks were available.

If you need more culture than stay close to or at least  visit San Jose del Cabo, a mission town established in the 1730.   The town square, cobblestone streets, art galleries & unique dining options make for a slower paces then her sister Cabo San Lucas which is 20 miles away & a party town.

The Barceló Puerto Vallarta is the perfect all-inclusive resort for your destination wedding or family vacation i.e. active yet with enough quiet places to relax. The food & drinks are great & the service is excellent. For wedding couples who wish to feel special, the Barceló Puerto Vallarta only allows one wedding per day & has a prefect beach area for it. This resort has been awarded the AAA 4 Diamond award since 2008.

A 15 minute drive south of Puerto Vallarta on Mismaloya Bay, where the mountains meet the sea, the Barceló Puerto Vallarta & its secluded location will not disappoint. It is this beach area that put Puerto Vallarta on the map with the 1964 filming of The Night of the Iguana starring Eva Gardner & Richard Burton with glamorous wife Elizabeth Taylor in tow. 20 years later, Predator was also filmed close by.

Having spent Christmas 2016 here with my husband & our two teenagers on the 8th floor club level in a 2 bedroom suite, we were charmed. The 317 all suite Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is the prefect size resort. The large 2 bedroom suites are great for families. My recommendation is to splurge on the Club level suite. You reside on higher floors with amazing ocean & mountain views + access to the club lounge which offers special appetizers & higher end liquor. If you are not a tequila lover you will be after sampling the top shelf tequila in the club lounge.

The resort is built up 9 floors not spread out like many of the mega all-inclusive resorts. If you always take the steps as I did, your workout is done. Next to the resort is the small village of Mismaloya which is also fun to walk about.

I decided our Christmas present this year would be a family vacation over Christmas week at the Playacar Palace all-inclusive in Playa del Carmen MX.  We loved it!!

I wondered if 3 restaurants, Japanese, Italian & the incredible changing buffet, would be enough for a 7 NT stay to satisfy 2 adults & 2 surly teens.  I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, the presentation & the service at the Playacar Palace.  If the resort is rated 4 to 4.5 stars the service is certainly 5 stars!  The fact that Sapphire Bombay or the blue bottle is at served at all 3 bars will tell you that the liquor is also premium.

Being upgrade to a Sand suite made all the difference.  A beach front walk out room is not only convenient with its own beach entrance, but it made for the wow factor in this vacation.  The person who proclaims that the room does not matter has never had great one. In my opinion the room & the view on a vacation can make or break it.

The Playacar Palace is just south of the pier, next to Senor Frogs & 1 block off Playacar del Carmen’s famed  5th Avenue with numerous  shops & restaurants.  Playa del Carmen may no longer be a quaint town but it is a lively place.

We enjoyed walking 5th Ave a few times to witness the Christmas celebrations including Mayan traditions which were cool.  But I must admit that I enjoyed returning to our Sand suite at the Playa car Palace, where I could sit outside on the terrace & listen to the waves of the Caribbean with blue bottle in my hand watching the passenger ferries come & go from Cozumel.

Mexico Travel Puerto Vallarta has been THE gay friendly Latin America destination for over 50 years but Mexico City’s star is rising fast. Minus Puerto Vallarta’s spectacular beaches Mexico City has much to offer.

Mexico City’s cosmopolitan, affluent areas, architecture & the Historic Centro attract & welcome LGBT travelers. A milestone event in 2010 Mexico City became the 1st Latin American country to legalize same sex marriage & legal adoption by same sex couples.

The city’s Zona Rosa claims ground zero for the LGBT rights movement & hosts some of the best gay night life in the world.

Travel Mexico

Why does Riviera Maya continue to be one of the best destination wedding locations?

Cancun is easily accessible, one pays Mexico prices while honeymooning on the Caribbean Sea & the romantic all-inclusive resort options are numerous. They are all-inclusive resorts on the Riviera Maya that fit the budget of every bride.

Couples planning a destination wedding need to consider all of the above.  I agree with KJ’s recent blog on Mexico’s Karisma Resorts in particular the El Dorado Royale. The El Dorado Royale Resort & Spa is one of the top honeymoon resorts on the Riviera Maya.  Couples who are seeking an elegant adult’s only all-inclusive resort for their wedding in Mexico will find no better.

One half mile of beach , ala carte gourmet restaurants with ingredients grown in their own green house, no reservations, no buffets , a full service spa, amazing landscaping, awesome accommodations and NO kids.  Wow let’s go!!

The adults only Excellence Playa Mujeres near Cancun is a great upscale choice for couples planning a wedding in Mexico.  The 450 room (all suite ) deluxe  plus property has spacious rooms complete with jacuzzi’s.  I especially love the Club Two Story Rooftop Terrace Ocean Front suites.  Not only do the suites have amazing views they are the prefect size for an intimate wedding ceremony and or a cocktail party.

Couples who call seeking information on a destination wedding are sometime intimidated by the barrage of necessary questions. Once the who, what, when where & how much questions are answered I can determine the best destination wedding location for the couple.  Clients sometimes have a hard time revealing their budget.  What they need to realize that their budget determines their destination wedding location.

I recently talked to a couple who really have their heart set on Cabo San Lucas.  I love Los Cabos especially during the winter months when the whales reside in & around the Sea of Cortes.

While a Mexico wedding is still the best bang for your buck a wedding in Cabo San Lucas will run higher than a wedding in Cancun or the Riviera Maya. One reason is that Cabo San Lucas has fewer flights & they’re more expensive.   This alone can add $200 dollars to their guest’s trip.  When price becomes an issue Cancun wins.

The Riviera Maya, the area between Cancun &Tulum is one of the top honeymoon destinations.

White sand beaches, blue water & spectacular resorts, Mayan ruins makes it the ultimate romantic honeymoon getaway.

One of my favorite honeymoon resorts is Secrets Maroma  Beach.  The beach itself has been called one of the world’s best.

You will experience romance & indulgence at the adult’s only Secret Maroma beach. This 5 star luxury all-inclusive, all suite(412 ) resort rest on 500 acres of lush terrain  Honeymoon couples can enjoy its 7 ala carte specialty  restaurants , 24 hour room service & premium liquor.  The resort has 12 small pools plus an infinity pool & a world class spa.  The atmosphere is romantic & the service is friendly & attentive. Secrets Maroma Beach is also a wonderful choice for a destination wedding in Mexico.

When you arrive at this honeymoon destination you are greeted with a glass of champagne, a warm towel & a welcoming smile and it only gets better.

All-inclusive resorts are not created equal.  When choosing an all-inclusive resort to host your Caribbean or Mexico wedding make sure to choose one with a high rating.  The difference between a 3 & 4 star rating can really affect the quality of the food & liquor served at the resort.  I always recommend at least a 4 star resort when booking a wedding location.  Remember you guests will be dining here.

Five star or luxury all-inclusive properties offer great variety in dining selections. The Royal Cancun, an adult’s only 5 star luxury resort, hosted a mock wedding feast for agents on a wedding trip I took last year.  We attended a gourmet five course diner complete with wine pairing.  It was an elegant affair.  The food presentation was fabulous and & every course delicious.  I was very impressed.

Since that visit I feel confident in recommending The Royal Cancun.  I have booked it for destination wedding groups & honeymooners.

Yesterday I reviewed the El Dorado Royale Resort & spa. Today I turn my gaze to  her  equally romantic but more intimate( 280 jr suites) & secluded  sister property the El Dorado Seaside Suites located on Kantenah Bay south of Puerto Aventuras  on the Riviera Maya.  This resort is about 1 hour south of the Cancun  airport.

This 5 star luxury adult’s only all-inclusive honeymoon resort has a rustic ambiance.  Surround by 280 unspoiled acres the El Dorado Seaside Suites appeals to the honeymoon couple who want the “get away from it all” feeling.   It made Annual List of Most Romantic Hotels in 2006. With beach beds lying on white sand surrounded by coconut palms & a charming beach front wedding gazebo, the El Dorado Seaside Suites looks post card perfect.

The beach is a little rocky but that’s because of the coral reef located close to the resort.  The coral though makes for incredible snorkeling.  All five restaurants are ala carte with great service.   Once again the landscaping is colorful and inviting.  I didn’t want to leave.
