A Fiji honeymoon

A Fiji honeymoon might be with in your reach.

For the couple who longs for a romantic honeymoon vacation in the South Pacific but can not afford Tahiti prices Fiji will fit the bill.

If you can escape the main island and venture to one of the other 100 inhabited islands you will  discover a visitor friendly culture, uncrowded beaches & affordable accommodations.

Fiji hosts the famous Rainbow reef that is a huge draw for divers & snorkelers. You can also hike, kayak & surf or visit historic sites.  Outer islands are easily accessible by small plane or catamaran. And yes, you can honeymoon in an over the water bungalow if you wish.

Caribbean weddings

Saying “I DO” in the Caribbean.

A Caribbean wedding is fairly easy.  That’s way so many American’s flock there to tie the knot?  Recommend Magazine’s annual Romance issue always reveals the best destination wedding and romantic honeymoon locations in the islands. It also dispenses sage advice that I use & pass along to my clients.

For example you must meet the legal requirements to marry on a given island and they are not all the same. Working with a travel planner that specializes in destination weddings is important.  They can guide a couple to the perfect resort, with a wedding coordinator that can ensure that a couple’s beach wedding is not only stunning but legal.

Why I Love Romance Travel

Why I Love Romance Travel!

Working with couples & families when they are planning a magic moment in life like a beach wedding on the Riviera Maya or a honeymoon getaway to Maui is fun! Planning a couples’ 25th anniversary Mediterranean cruise is exciting.  I feel great when I know the trip is spectacular and that they will have blast.

Couples spend more money on their honeymoon than their annual trip.  The room & the view are important to honeymooners.  If they are traveling to Mexico or the Caribbean the luxury adults only all inclusive resorts are very appealing.   They can be pampered at the spa and have amenities & activities at their finger tips.

A great time to travel to Mexico or the Caribbean is between Thanksgiving & Christmas week.    Hurricane season over, the weather is great but it is a low time for travel so deals abound.

A Cool Destination for a Cruise Wedding.

A Cool Destination for a Cruise Wedding.

Travel AlaskaIf you have taken an Alaskan Cruise….you must go.  Alaska is one of the most spectacular destinations in the Northern hemisphere. Whether you seek a romantic honeymoon or an anniversary getaway for two, a vow renewal with friends or adventurous small group travel..Alaska is amazing. Now think destination wedding.  Envision that you are being married by the cruise captain with Glacier Bay as your back drop…wow.  What a cool destination for a cruise wedding….no pun intended. This past August I traveled with my sisters Shannon & Mugz (Marguerite) on the north bound Coral Princess ( Princess Cruises- Vancouver to Whittier) –This cruise itinerary is called the inside passage). Our cruise started with a high note when we were upgraded to a mini suite thanks to my Princess Cruise sale rep.  The mini suite upgrade really made the difference. The extra space made traveling with 3 adults in one cabin more than comfortable. Cruisesers should always consider booking a least a balcony cabin. Anyone who tells you that your cruise cabin does not make a difference has never cruised. Cruising is the only other way to see the inside passage other than by small plane. After the cruise it was onto McKinley Princess Lodge, Denali Princess Lodge & finally into Denali National Park itself.  Yes…I even saw the mountain!!!

Dreams Cancun beach weddingI took my family on a Mexico vacation this past month to Cancun & of course I mixed business with pleasure.Always on the look for the best destination wedding locations, I made appoints with wedding coordinators at several luxury all-inclusive resorts in Cancun & Isla Mujeres.

We stayed at Dreams Cancun which is Punta Cancun, the last resort on the very tip of Cancun. An upgrade to an ocean front room & sparking wine at check in was a sign of goods time ahead.

This 5 star luxury all-inclusive resort is excellent for families & a superb ocean front wedding location if children will be in attendance. The dolphin’s which call Dreams Cancun their home are always fun to watch & yes, you can pay to swim with them too. My kids did and had a blast!! $100 dollars each for 45 minutes swim

LeBlancDreams Cancun’s beach side wedding gazebo, offers an incredible view of Cancun, which makes it a spectacular spot to marry or renew your vows in Mexico.  Or you can have a beach wedding with your feet in the sand. Cancun’s beaches are back & beautiful! The beach reconstruction is a success.

I made a point to visit Le Blanc resort & spa, the high end property of the Palace Resorts chain.  LeBlanc is an adult’s only 5 star luxury all-inclusive resort a few miles south of Punta Cancun. Simple elegance best describes Le Blanc.  As far as a destination wedding location couples have the option for a beach wedding or a sunset wedding on their west facing terrace over looking the lagoon. All Palace resorts offer a free basic wedding package as well as free rooms toward the couple’s honeymoon vacation if their group is large enough.  This is great deals for couples.

Finally I took the ferry to Isla Mujeres where I visited the 4 star all-inclusive Isla Palace (of the Palace resort chain).

This boutique style resort is small by the Palace resorts standards, only 62 rooms, but still has amenities such a spa & 24 hour room service that appeal to honeymooners & families. The open air beach restaurant is prefect for the outdoor wedding reception following the beach wedding with Cancun in the background.

Villa RolandiMy last stop was the secluded & privately owned Villa Rolandi on Isla Mujeres.  This 4 star Mexico/ Mediterranean style resort is in prefect harmony with the environment & the beach.   This intimate resort with 35 ocean view suites and a gourmet Italian restaurant on premise can be rented entirely by a wedding couple  for their group.  The Villa Rolandi’s private catamaran ferries guests directly to the resort in style.

For those seeking a quiet, elegant Mexico honeymoon or anniversary trip the Villa Rolandi is also an excellent choice.

Riviera Maya through Funjet Vacations

On my last post I described how this romance travel agent (me) was able to secure less expensive travel by participating in a destination wedding familiarization trip on the Riviera Maya through Funjet Vacations.

On the first night in Cancun, our host hotel the 4.5 star luxury all-inclusive Excellence Playa Mujeres, gave us a tour of the resort & their romantic wedding sites.

Although all the rooms are large jacuzzi jr. suites the roof top ocean view suites are amazing. They are prefect for a private cocktail reception for a small wedding & then a luxurious honeymoon getaway.

After the tour my self & 12 travel agents from around the country were wined & dined in the Italian specialty ala cart restaurant.  I was impressed with the service & the cuisine.

Upon return to my private jacuzzi jr suite which overlooked the pool, I found chocolate & sparkling wine waiting for me.  To full to eat & drink more I ordered room service for breakfast & hit the king size bed.

The next morning Lomas Travel, our traveling host, for the destination wedding site inspections picked us early & we drove over an hour down the Riviera Maya. We saw many all-inclusive Mexican resorts that day & more than a few romantic beach wedding locations but by far the best destination wedding & honeymoon resorts in my opinion are the adults only El Dorado Spa resorts by Karisma.  El Dorado Seaside Suites,( 280 jacuzzi jr. suites in a secluded location ), the Eldorado Royale (605 jr suites plus casitas suites set over a mile of secluded beach) & the El Dorado Maroma (72 suites including personalized butler service). The El Dorado’s are Mexican owned & operated and are truly green resorts.  These beach front luxury resorts blend into the landscaping so well they appear to be part it and they offer an authentic tropical vacation experience.

The accommodations are elegant, the gourmet ala carte restaurants are fantastic & the service is impeccable.  Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the signature spas which are unbelievable.  If you are searching for honeymoon ideas in Mexico the El Dorado’s spa resorts are right choice.

Time to fly I’m leaving for Mexico in a tomorrow and I need to prepare for my next venture.

Welcome to Andre's Blog!

Andre Picture     I secretly cringe when a well meaning acquaintance or client states, “You book destination weddings? You must be able to travel everywhere, cheap.” While the golden days of travel agent discounts and free upgrades have passed, this romance travel agent can still travel for less if I’m willing to work a little while on “vacation”.

One such opportunity arose recently with a chance to visit Cancun & the Riviera Mayan on a Destination Wedding FAM trip through Fun Jet Vacations. A FAM trip, or familiarization trip, is travel agent lingo for a “working vacation”.

Cancun & the Riviera Maya are two of the best destination wedding & honeymoon locations for both value & style.

Andre and her friends

As a romance travel expert, this was a great opportunity for me to personally view exotic wedding venues & romantic honeymoon resorts. Funjet was able to show me a few properties, introduce their new destination wedding planning department, and I took notes. It was a great exchange for a four night Sun & Sand retreat in a junior suite at the Excellence Playa Mujeres. This is a 4.5 star, all-inclusive resort 20 minutes west of Cancun. The venue is just across from Isla Mujeres which is another tropical vacation hotspot.

In my next several blogs, I invite you to join me on this four day marathon of romantic vacation properties and beach weddings locations. This was a most enlightening journey where I discovered that not all 5 star, luxury, all-inclusive resorts are created equal.
