Outside of San Juan is a verdant land scape. The eastern portion is home to El Yunque, Puerto Rico’s famed tropical forest; the only tropical forest in the United States. You won’t find a lusher environment for a Puerto Rico destination wedding then El Yunque. If you wish you can tie the knot on a mountain top or by a forest pool or by at a nearby resort with dramatic views of the verdant landscape. The Wyndam Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa locate in the Rio Grande (north eastern Puerto Rico) is the closest full service resort to El Yunque. This 4.5 star 600 room resort is complete with a Balinese-inspired Mandara Spa, 8 restaurants, 4 lounges, tennis courts, 2 golf course, 4 swimming pools & 1 mile of uninterrupted beach.
You can also leave the mainland Puerto Rico and get married on the islands of Vieques & Culebra off the east coast. Part of each island is a Wild Life Refuge. Culebra is the choice for a more rustic setting. On, Vieques you can get more lavish with your plans due to more upscale accomodations. Either way you get an island that combines untamed vegetation & unspoiled beaches. There are many spectacular locations for your Puerto Rico destination wedding. One thing you will not find is all-inclusive resort. There are none. Puerto Rico encourages to explore.

Puerto Rico is a unique destination and the perfect island for a romantic getaway, a destination wedding or a honeymoon vacation. Puerto Rico combines the history & culture of Europe, the ecotourism of Central America, the beaches & resorts of the Caribbean and the nightlife & glamour of Miami Beach. Puerto Rico’s tourist capital is San Juan. San Juan’s historic center-Old San Juan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with blocks of 16th-17th century buildings, superb shops & wonderful restaurants. This area is fun walk & explore. You can visit a Spanish fort & the Old San Juan Cathedral where Spanish explorer & the 1st governor of Puerto Rico Ponce de Leon is buried.
Puerto Rico is a mere 110 miles long & 48 miles wide about 3 times the size of Rhode Island but is a diverse & exciting destination to explore. Follow me over the next week as I explore the different regions, review resorts and point out the best destination wedding and honeymoon escapes on this American Common Wealth island.
